Arthritis
MusculoskeletalArthritis

Arthritis, according to Aajonus Vonderplanitz, is inflammation in the joints or the connective tissue that is accompanied by soreness or pain. It is a swelling of joints from toxicity that has stored there, either inter-cellularly or extra-cellularly. It is not a bacterial disease, not an autoimmune disease, and not an inevitable consequence of aging or wear and tear. It is a condition created by accumulated toxicity in the joint tissues, toxins that cause decay in the joints, and only secondarily involves bacteria, which are janitorial organisms called in to clean up the damage, not to cause it.

Aajonus's Definition

Aajonus was direct in his dismissal of the conventional medical framing: "Medical community has created this whole image of, oh, in arthritis we have a certain bacteria that gets into the tissue and causes a disease. Isn't the way it occurs at all. Toxins get into the joints, cause damage to the cartilage. The bacteria, which is 99% of your body, is there to eat up those dead damaged cells so that you can get rid of them and reproduce and function properly."

He also rejected the concept of autoimmune disease entirely as it applies to arthritis: "There's no such thing as autoimmune disease. That's a fiction of the medical profession. It's an awful fiction. Your body never attacks itself. You have janitorial bacteria. You have janitorial hormones."

The bacteria found in arthritic joints are specifically a form used to digest undigested food particles and damaged cartilage cells, not to break down and digest healthy cartilage cells. The distinction is critical. The bacteria are a response to the problem, not the cause of it.

Aajonus described arthritis as beginning with a lack of fats in the joints, and the bursa failing to produce adequate lubricating fluids. In many cases, the bursa manufactures a toxic, acidic fluid instead of proper lubricating fluid, which irritates the joints further. This creates conditions where viruses, infections, and yeasts form in the joints, and these agents eat away at the cartilage. When the cartilage is gone, usually beginning in the fifties, the process begins eating away at the bones themselves.

He also noted that arthritis had plagued him from a very young age: "I had arthritis from a very young age. It's a lack of fats, again, in the joints. And a lot of times it's not diagnosed, but the bursas are not producing the fluids to lubricate the...", and that he completely reversed his own arthritis.

The form of arthritis caused by shrinking tendons is distinct from the leaky-gut form. When tendons shrink and dry out, a condition Aajonus associated with diabetic-type dryness, the joints are forced together and begin to rub and grind until they become infected and deteriorating. He described one individual: "What that happens, usually when that shrinks like that, it causes the joints to go together and cause arthritis rheumatism or rheumatoid arthritis. And it just starts forcing the joints to rub and grind until they become infected, deteriorating."

Root Cause

Root Cause

Aajonus identified multiple root causes of arthritis, with different percentage weightings depending on the seminar, ranging from 75% to 90% attributed to a single primary mechanism.

Primary Cause: Leaky Gut / Crohn's Disease (75–90% of all cases)

The dominant root cause of arthritis and rheumatism, stated repeatedly across seminars with varying percentages of 75%, 80%, 85%, and 90%, is leaky gut, also called Crohn's disease. Aajonus used the term "Crohn's disease" broadly to describe a condition where the intestinal mucous lining becomes so thin that it tears when food is consumed, allowing undigested food particles to pass directly into the body.

He explained the mechanism in detail: "Crohn's disease is where the stomach mucous lining is very thin. Your own digested acids are getting through and digesting the intestinal wall. The intestinal wall is getting very thin and when you eat it causes ripping of the gut so you have leaky gut. It means undigested foods getting into your gut and sends it to the knees first for digesting."

The sequence proceeds as follows:

1. The intestinal mucosa is inadequate, either insufficient quantity or poor quality of mucus 2. The person's own digestive acids (hydrochloric acid, bile) eat through the thin mucus and begin degrading the intestinal wall 3. When the person eats a large amount, the thin intestinal wall tears 4. Undigested food particles enter the body through these tears (leaky gut) 5. The body, unable to digest these particles in the intestines, routes them to the joints, the knees first, then hips, then shoulders, then elbows (in approximately 80% of cases, in that order) 6. The body then attempts to digest this food in the joints by producing digestive acids like hydrochloric acid and bile 7. This creates inflammation, bacteria, and swelling in the joint area 8. The bacteria working on the food in the joints also causes pain and redness in the surrounding tissue 9. Gradually, the cartilage begins to deteriorate as the digestive process eats it away 10. The body sends bacteria to clean up the damaged, dead cartilage cells 11. Medical science observes the bacteria and concludes they are the cause, labeling it bacterial arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis

Aajonus described seeing people with darkened knees and joints: "That's why you see people with darker knees, darker joints, because their body is sending bile to that area to handle it, to break it down."

The route of food particles from the gut to the joints is not random. Aajonus stated that in approximately 80% of cases, the order of joint involvement follows this sequence: knees first, then hips, then shoulders, then elbows.

He noted that mucus under a microscope "looks like layers of cloth, woven. And you can have anywhere from 8 to 14 layers. Some say up to 16, but I've only seen up to 14. And you've got all this crisscrossing of meshing. It's just woven. It looks like fabric under a microscope." When this protective fabric is degraded, the intestinal wall loses its protection.

He also identified penicillin given at a young age as a cause of this intestinal degradation, finding in his iris analysis that "90% of the IBS inflammatory bowel syndrome and digestive disorders including Crohn's disease was caused by penicillin given at a young age."

Secondary Cause: Vaccine Poisonings and Metallic/Chemical Toxins (10% of cases)

The remaining 10% of arthritis cases, according to Aajonus, are caused by "vaccine poisonings and other kinds of metallic poisonings that get into the joints." He described this category explicitly: "Other causes of arthritis are caustic toxins stored in joints, such as from vaccines and industrial agriculture and food-processing chemicals."

He gave a specific case of a man who developed rheumatoid arthritis from mercury (thimerosal) that had been sprayed on marijuana plants by the U.S. government: "You know where he got his rheumatoid arthritis? Mercury, thimerosal, sprayed on marijuana plants in Mexico by the U.S. government... He stole the two kilos and smoked it for about three years. All of that mercury from the thimerosal poisoning from the U.S. government damaged his system."

Tertiary Cause: Vegetable Oils Crystallizing in Tissue

Aajonus also described how cooked and processed vegetable oils, when incorporated into cellular structures, harden and crystallize because human body temperature (98.6°F) is insufficient to keep them liquid: "You take a vegetable oil and you use it as a product of a cell, the building of a cell. Five to six years, that remains there and guess what? It's part of your bone structure. You're going to have a crystal form in that cell. That cell dies and ruptures and you have scar tissue in your bones, in your bone marrow, anywhere else in the body in your tendons... Then how do you get rid of that crystal? Or does your bone, tendons, muscles, become scarred and stay that way? And then what happens? You get arthritis, you get rheumatism, you get osteoporosis, all kinds of diseases."

Cause in True Trauma Cases

In cases where a person has suffered physical injury, such as a runner on a poor diet who repeatedly bruises cartilage, true arthritis and rheumatism can develop where the body generates bacteria to dissolve genuinely damaged cartilage. Aajonus distinguished this from the leaky gut variety: "Let's say if you were a runner, and on a bad car diet, and you kept bruising your cartilage, you could end up with arthritis and rheumatism, true arthritis and rheumatism, where your body has gotten bacteria into that, generate bacteria to dissolve the damaged cartilage... But arthritis and rheumatism, most arthritis and rheumatism are the symptoms of digesting leaky gut food rather than bruised or damaged cartilage. Each one's different."

Cause from Tendon Shrinkage (Distinct Category)

In some individuals, those with severe dryness that Aajonus associated with a diabetic-type constitution, the tendons shrink and pull the joints together. This causes the joint surfaces to rub together and generates a different type of arthritic condition. He identified this in one individual: "The tendons have been shrinking and it causes the joints to rub together and that creates the inflammation. So yours isn't a normal arthritic and rheumatic condition. Yours is from irritation of rubbing together. It isn't just toxicity going in there and causing inflammation. Yours is actually having bruised the cartilage."

Cause from Uric Acid and Lipid Oxides from Cooked Meat

Aajonus identified uric acid and lipid oxides that form from cooked meat as a direct cause of the type of joint toxicity that leads to arthritis: "The uric acid and the lipid oxides that form from the cooked meat that mainly cause that kind of storage and problem in the joints, rheumatoid arthritis or just arthritis or rheumatitis, are caused by that compound and it needs to be secreted."

Cause from Electromagnetic Fields

Aajonus also named electromagnetic fields, from laptops, computer towers, and airplane environments, as causes of arthritis and rheumatism: "They cause a lot of arthritis and rheumatism. They cause a lot of aching. Oh, but the industry denies it." He noted that a computer tower emitting 125–200 gauss needs to be over three feet away from the body, and that proximity to the lower body would affect the knees and hip joints.

Why This Happens

Why This Happens

Arthritis sits at the intersection of multiple principles in Aajonus's framework:

Root Cause / Terrain Theory: The fundamental premise, that arthritis is a toxicity condition caused by leaky gut, accumulated chemical/metallic poisons, or crystallized vegetable oils, belongs entirely to terrain theory. The body is not attacking itself. The environment of the joint has been made toxic.

Cooked Food: The consumption of cooked meats (generating uric acid and lipid oxides), cooked vegetable oils (crystallizing in cell structures), and cooked foods generally (which destroy enzymes and contribute to poor digestion and thin mucosa) is central to the development of arthritis.

Microbes: The bacteria found in arthritic joints are reframed as janitors eating dead and decayed material, not as pathogens. This is the core Microbes application.

Detoxification: When a person begins eating raw foods and raw meat, the stored compounds that caused arthritic symptoms are expelled. This produces a recurrence of arthritic symptoms during detoxification, a healing crisis. Aajonus warned that this would happen and that it was a sign of correct healing, not relapse.

How to Eat / How to Live: The dietary protocol for arthritis, specific foods, timing, quantities, baths, hot water bottles, falls into the practical protocol principles.

Raw Food: The restoration of the mucosa, the provision of proper lubricating fats, the supply of enzymes for digestion, and the healing of cartilage all depend on eating raw animal foods.

Symptoms Reframed

Symptoms Reframed

Pain

Pain in arthritic joints is not a disease in itself but a signal that toxicity has accumulated in an area. Aajonus stated: "Most often, pain is Nature's way of telling us something is wrong, that toxicity has accumulated in an area or system from malnutrition, accident or contamination/poisoning. If we ignore the cause of pain, often toxins remain and disease develops."

Swelling and Enlarged Joints

Swelling in arthritic joints, including the dramatic basketball-sized swelling he described in rheumatoid arthritis cases, is the result of bacteria working on the undigested food particles and dead cartilage in the joint, combined with the inflammatory response to those bacteria, not a disease process of the joint itself. The swelling is the body's cleaning and digesting activity.

Redness and Heat in Joints

The redness around arthritic joints reflects the elevated biological activity, bacteria, digestive acids, inflammatory compounds, all present as part of the cleaning process.

Darkened Skin Over Joints

When Aajonus observed darkened skin at the knees or other joints, he interpreted this as the body sending bile to those areas to digest the undigested food particles that had been routed there from the leaky gut.

Bacteria Found in Joints

When conventional medicine finds bacteria in arthritic joints and concludes bacteria caused the disease, Aajonus reframed this completely: "The form of bacteria that is found in arthritis is actually a form of bacteria used to digest the undigested food particles and damaged cartilage, not breakdown and digest healthy cartilage-cells." He called them "freaking janitors."

Joint Replacement Need

When arthritis progresses to the point where cartilage is entirely consumed and bones are grinding together, often resulting in knee and hip replacement surgeries, Aajonus acknowledged that at this stage, regeneration is essentially impossible within a practical timeframe: "It's so gone, so eaten away. There is no regenerating that. It would take as long as it took them to deteriorate to rebuild it. So it's a big problem."

However, he noted that even people with replacement joints could resolve the pain that persisted after surgery by eating raw meat: "Many people with replacement joints suffered unending pain until they began eating raw meat. Most sufferers completely eliminated crippling replacement pain within 2 weeks of consuming raw meat twice daily. Others required 4-5 weeks."

Re-experiencing Arthritic Symptoms on the Diet

When a person begins the Primal Diet and old arthritic compounds stored in joints begin to be expelled, they will re-experience symptoms of arthritis during the cleansing. Aajonus was clear this is not a setback: "At that kind of storage and problem in the joints, rheumatoid arthritis or just arthritis or rheumatitis, are caused by that compound and it needs to be secreted and when you get the raw meat in the system, sometimes it will cause them to expel and you'll have symptoms of that disease. It's like I said in the book. All those diseases are going to reoccur. Symptoms. But this time, when you're cleansing, you're going to cleanse properly. And when you heal, you're going to heal properly."

Food Protocol

Food Protocol

Aajonus provided extensive dietary guidance for arthritis, varying by the specific type and cause of the condition.

Raw Meat, Foundation

Raw meat is foundational for arthritis. It provides the protein and enzymes needed to rebuild cartilage, connective tissue, and joint structures, and it provides the raw materials to heal the leaky gut that caused the arthritis. The uric acid and lipid oxides from cooked meat are specifically implicated in joint toxicity, so raw meat is essential to avoid adding new toxic load while providing nutrition.

For joint replacement pain: raw meat twice daily eliminated crippling replacement pain in most cases within 2 weeks; some required 4–5 weeks. It did not matter whether red or white meat was used, except that if red meat was making the person more anxious, white meat should be substituted.

For the leaky gut underlying arthritis: "Lots of eggs and lots of dairy. Corrected very quickly.", describing a 14-year-old girl with Crohn's-induced arthritis who normalized in nine months.

Meat ratios: For a person with rheumatoid arthritic symptoms and anemia: "For about 6 months, 60% red, 40% white, mainly chicken or any kind of fowl, turkey, ostrich, doesn't matter."

For a person with tendon-shrinkage arthritis: "Meat should be about 60% chicken 20% red meat and 20% fish. Anytime that you eat red meat, you should have it with fish. Chicken is fine alone."

Aajonus identified chicken specifically as critical for joint problems: "Chicken is loaded with fat and it's good to lubricate the joint. And chicken fat. I mean if you get a chicken and right around the back end there are these pockets of fat." He specifically sought out chickens with the biggest fat pockets, eating the fat raw.

Chicken, Specific Role

Chicken was prescribed to help shrink enlarged tissue and to provide the fats needed to lubricate joints: "The chicken will help the shrinking of everything." For tendon-shrinkage arthritis: "Raw cream and eating lots of chicken. It will provide the fats to lubricate the area so it can allow it to stretch, so it has elasticity. And the white meat so you can build cells to build it out so it won't be so tight."

Raw Cheese, Pain Absorption and Mineral Binding

Cheese is described as one of the primary tools for arthritis. Eaten frequently, every 15 minutes, every 20 minutes, or every 30 minutes, it draws toxins out of the body and prevents them from being reabsorbed. Aajonus stated: "By taking the cheese either every 15 minutes or every 20 minutes or every 30 minutes, the change is great. The coloration, the digestion is improved. Their skin is improved."

He described the clinical result: a woman with rheumatoid arthritis so severe she was crippled in a wheelchair, with knees as big as basketballs and hands buckled up, unable to feed herself, who recovered substantially through cheese, the diet, and hot baths over multiple years.

Cheese paired with honey was specifically recommended for joint problems: "Joints usually heat the cheese and honey and also just meat. Meat's very good for that. Meat with a great little cheese with it."

Raw Honey with Cheese

Cheese and honey together are recommended for joint and pain situations: "Cheese and honey and a good diet. Lots of milk. Sip on that milk." The cheese-honey pairing is a recurring element in joint protocols.

Pain Formula

Aajonus referenced a pain formula described in his book, which he stated works for joint and tooth problems, bruises, knee injuries, and any kind of injury. He noted he had improved the formula through ongoing experimentation. For a person recovering from arthritic foot surgery: "The pain formula once a day with a meat meal, that will help it the quickest."

The pain formula "doesn't work in some cases like migraines, but it works in joint and tooth problems, bruises, knee injuries, any kind of injury."

Raw Milk

Raw milk was prescribed generally as part of the arthritis protocol: "Lots of milk. Sip on that milk. Make sure it's not cold." The emphasis on non-cold temperature is consistent with his general guidance about not cooling foods.

For a person with rheumatoid arthritic symptoms: "When you can get a hold of raw cream, just drink it as if it were water. I crave it."

Lubrication Formula

The Lubrication Formula was identified as "most often imperative" after joint surgery and for joint deterioration. Aajonus referred to this formula frequently without detailing the complete recipe in all passages, but noted it is in his book.

Raw Coconut Cream

Coconut cream was specifically recommended for dissolving mineral buildup in joints: "Eating fresh raw coconut cream with banana gradually dissolves hardened mineral build-up." He also recommended it for someone at risk of developing arthritis from joint toxicity: "Coconut cream is going to be very important to help get rid of this joint toxicity that you have. It could develop into the arthritis. I do a lot of that."

For the rheumatoid arthritic patient with anemia: "Once every 16 days, I'd like you to have an entire 8 ounces of carrot juice with 4 ounces of cow's cream and 2 ounces of coconut cream. That may cause you to get nauseous. So, you may not be able to eat anything for maybe 4 or 5 hours after that, but that's okay."

He also described a cycle of pineapple with coconut cream: "About every seven days, I like to go through a three-day cycle of having pineapple with either whipped cream or coconut cream. How much pineapple? About four ounces. So it's about maybe almost a half-inch thick circular slice." This was for dissolving scarring in tendons.

Raw Pineapple

Pineapple is specifically recommended for dissolving hardened mineral buildup and for rheumatism: "Raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar... eating raw pineapple with raw meat and raw fat usually resolve rheumatism." And: "Eating fresh raw coconut cream with banana gradually dissolves hardened mineral build-up. This can also be achieved, more slowly, by eating raw citrus and raw fat together, such as live pineapple with avocado, or live pineapple with raw cream."

The caveat: "However, pineapple often causes over-emotionality. Therefore, be aware of your moods and eat pineapple cautiously."

For tendon scarring contributing to arthritic joint rubbing: "Pineapple with either whipped cream or coconut cream... about four ounces... almost a half-inch thick circular slice... about every seven days, I like to go through a three-day cycle."

He also noted: "It takes six, seven, eight months on the size of the bone to digest food in your joints.", meaning the pineapple and cream protocol for dissolving joint deposits is not a quick fix.

Raw Tomatoes and Lemon Juice, Immediate Pain Relief

From the protocol section: "Drinking a blend of 2 raw tomatoes with 4 tablespoons fresh raw lemon juice most often relieves pain within several hours."

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, Alkalizing

Raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar was recommended because "all foods which help alkalize the blood are helpful in this condition."

Raw Cherries

"If you have a taste for cherries, eating raw cherries helps to prevent uric acid deposits in joints."

Raw Celery / Celery Juice

"Or eating raw celery or drinking raw celery juice does the same", referring to prevention of uric acid deposits, same mechanism as cherries.

Raw Milk with Tablespoon Ingredient Blend

From the protocol: "Drinking 6-8 ounces of raw milk blended with 1 tablespoon [of something]".

Eggs

Eggs were central to healing the Crohn's disease underlying the arthritis. For the 14-year-old girl with Crohn's-induced massive knee swelling: "Lots of eggs and lots of dairy. Corrected very quickly." He described this as the primary repair food for the digestive tract that, when healed, resolved the leaky gut feeding the arthritic condition.

Cartilage, Eating Cartilage

"Eating cartilage gradually, 90% of arthritis and rheumatism is from leaky gut", he mentioned eating cartilage in the context of healing the gut that causes arthritis.

Walnuts, Egg, Peanut Oil or Butter, and Honey

For the specific case of tendon-shrinkage arthritis: "You need walnuts and you need to blend them with egg, peanut oil or butter and honey. Without the carob."

Oysters, Shellfish, Deep Sea Fish, Mineral Support

For arthritis specifically affecting bone and cartilage: "Watch the mineral, because just remember the cartilage and the bone are very mineral concentrated because they are solid... Oyster, shellfish... Right. Deep sea fish." These foods were recommended for their mineral content to support the rebuilding of mineral-dense joint structures.

Snake Oil / Snake Meat

Aajonus described a direct experience where eating what he believed to be an herb but was actually fermented meat (possibly snake or other animal) relieved his severe arthritic pain completely for the duration of 28 days in Alaska when temperatures had previously left him crippled from cold. He later connected this to snake oil: "You've heard of snake oil? Getting snake oil, what I've seen is one teaspoon of that will get rid of arthritis and rheumatism. So it's true about it." He described making his own snake preparation after killing a rattlesnake: "Almost all my pain went away." He described this remedy as helping "of rheumatic and arthritic symptoms usually within two hours."

High Meat (Fermented Meat)

Aajonus noted that fermented meat preparations (like the Eskimo preparation he consumed in Alaska) functioned through pre-digestion by bacteria, and that this significantly helped his arthritic pain during that period.

Butter

Butter was specifically recommended for lubrication: "Lots of butter. Butter is going to help you a lot." For the person with molds in nails and cartilage moving toward rheumatoid arthritis: "You need lots of lubrication formulas. Don't lose any more weight... And lots of butter."

For tendon-shrinkage arthritis: "You need to leave a little bit more butter than cream, probably two-thirds butter and one-third cream."

Raw Cream

"When you can get a hold of raw cream, just drink it as if it were water." Raw cream was one of the key lubricating fats for arthritic conditions, either drunk freely or used in combination formulas.

Pears and Apples and Berries

For a person with heavy metal accumulation contributing to arthritic-type joint symptoms: "Good fruit for you would be pears, unripe green pears. Once in a while, let's say once every six weeks, you could have a medium ripe one. Apples would be good. Berries would be good. Any kind of berry, except for strawberries. Strawberries once in a while would be okay."

Bee Venom / Eating Bees

Aajonus mentioned that some people sting themselves with bees for arthritis and rheumatism because "the bee venom is supposed to help dissolve joint congestion. Just like whey does." He noted that he himself had been testing bee interactions. However, he expressed preference for a less radical approach: "I say just get a bunch of bees and eat them. You know, it'd be better to put it through that way than sting it right into your leg." He described a case where a man who had been stinging himself developed knees "this big" and joint problems everywhere, coming to him at age 20 and recovering over the following decade.

What to Avoid

What to Avoid

  • i

Aajonus was specific and direct: "People who have a tendency towards arthritis really need to stay away from cooked beef. If they are going to eat any kind of cooked meat, cooked chicken is okay once or twice a week. Otherwise they just need to stay away from cooked meats."

  • ii

Cooked beef generates uric acid and lipid oxides that store in the joints and create the arthritic compounds. This is distinct from cooked chicken, which generates less toxic residue and was considered acceptable occasionally for those who could not yet eat fully raw.

  • iii

The uric acid and lipid oxides produced by cooking meat are directly linked to joint toxicity and arthritic conditions. "The uric acid and the lipid oxides that form from the cooked meat that mainly cause that kind of storage and problem in the joints, rheumatoid arthritis or just arthritis or rheumatitis, are caused by that compound."

  • iv

Vegetable oils crystallize in tissue at human body temperature, causing scarring in bones, bone marrow, tendons, and joint structures, leading to arthritis, rheumatism, and osteoporosis.

  • v

"Avoiding cooked green and cooked yellow foods, and eating raw foods, including raw pineapple with raw meat and raw fat usually resolve rheumatism." This is relevant because rheumatism (defined as acute and chronic stiffness of muscles with pain in joints) accompanies many arthritic conditions.

  • vi

Aajonus was asked about an arthritis "cure" involving injecting joints with Lidocaine (an anesthetic) and dextrose (sugar water). He rejected it completely: "Rather than curing arthritis, I think that the therapy is not a remedy but a destruction of the nerves in the joints and a loss of pain is all that is beneficially experienced."

  • vii

He explained that pain is a signal, not a disease: "Most often, pain is Nature's way of telling us something is wrong, that toxicity has accumulated in an area or system from malnutrition, accident or contamination/poisoning. If we ignore the cause of pain, often toxins remain and disease develops."

  • viii

He noted that some cases that received this injection therapy ended in joint replacement because the joints dissolved painlessly and mobility was lost without any warning signal. Some of those people later re-experienced excruciating pain when deterioration reached new and surrounding nerves.

  • ix

However, he noted two cases where people received the Lidocaine/sugar-water treatment, which removed their constant arthritic pain, and then "immediately adopted my Primal Diet. They did not experience...", the passage is cut off but implies they had better outcomes by combining relief with the diet.

  • x

He concluded: "It is a very young 'therapy' and most of the results won't show for many years as more people subject themselves to it."

  • xi

Antibiotics, particularly penicillin given in childhood, were identified as causing the intestinal damage that leads to Crohn's disease and subsequently to leaky gut arthritis. The 14-year-old girl with arthritis from Crohn's had been treated by doctors "with medication and antibiotics for two and a half years almost" with no improvement; she normalized in nine months on the Primal Diet.

  • xii

Aajonus described the senator's granddaughter who had recovered fully from Crohn's-induced arthritis on the diet in nine months, then "wanted to be like all of her peers so she went back to eating th...", the passage is cut off but implies she relapsed. This illustrates the importance of not returning to cooked foods even after recovery.

  • xiii

One seminar attendee asked whether hyperbaric pressure chambers might help remove toxins from bone marrow in arthritic conditions. Aajonus responded: "I haven't found that works at all."

  • xiv

A question was submitted about a woman who had received magnetic therapy for systemic arthritis and connective tissue disintegration in Germany. Aajonus's response: "The magnetic therapy did not reverse the condition. She is still seeking help. The nonbioactively-produced electromagnetic energy produced by machines only mimics the energy that has been bioactively produced by biological life." He recommended instead: "Lying on the earth, or grass in a yard, or sand on the beach, will balance the currents in the body holistically. Also, natural clays carry magnetic ions that correct cellular low-magnetic conditions."

  • xv

Laptops, computer towers, and airplane electromagnetic fields cause arthritis and rheumatism. He specifically noted: "I had moved into a new house at the same time, and I started getting all this carpal tunnel... Here I'm barely touching the keys, and I'm getting carpal tunnel." He recommended keeping computer towers over three feet away and using a separate keyboard with a laptop.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery Timeline

Recovery from arthritis on the Primal Diet is measured in years, not weeks or months, for advanced cases. However, even within the first year, significant improvements are documented.

General Timeline Statements
  • "I have people who have arthritis and rheumatism that have joints like this and after 7 years on the diet they have no pain whatsoever and the swelling is down to a tenth of what it was. And they're functioning not in wheelchairs anymore."
  • "It takes six, seven, eight months on the size of the bone to digest food in your joints", for dissolving accumulated food deposits.
  • "It takes 40 years in the amount of that to reduce it completely", referring to deeply accumulated mineral deposits, though significant change comes much sooner with frequent cheese consumption.
  • "It takes seven and a half years to replace every cell in the bones. And it takes five generations to do that, so it could take up to 40 years to remedy that completely."
  • If a person has an arthritic ache in the knee and is not eating properly: "It can last six months to a year because they're not eating properly. If you're eating properly, your symptoms will change."
The Chicago Woman with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Primary Case Study

This is the most detailed case study Aajonus presented across multiple seminars, with slight variations in detail and timeline. Composite account:

Presenting condition: A woman in a wheelchair, unable to stand, walk, feed herself, or dress herself. Knees as big as basketballs (or described as "this big," indicating massive swelling). Elbows the size of softballs. Wrists very large. All hands buckled up. Knuckles large everywhere. A hardball-sized mineral deposit present. Unable to play cards with friends, had not played cards in three to ten years (different seminar accounts give different lengths). Diagnosed with "severe advanced arthritis, arthritic rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis." Doctors told her she would probably die within a year. She had been deteriorating for three years before coming to Aajonus.

Treatment: The Primal Diet plus hot baths, approximately 90 minutes at approximately 105 degrees Fahrenheit, initially twice a week. When the husband was told that twice weekly was insufficient for quick recovery: "If you want her to get well in a year, have her walk into me next year, you need to make sure she has a hot bath 90 minutes every day."

Year 1 progress: After one year on the diet (with twice-weekly baths), she returned: - Could feed herself - Hands were out, able to touch and work the recording device - Still had one knot on one hand - Knees had shrunk approximately 50%

Year 2 progress: After another year: - Could stand somewhat - Required a walker to walk but could be mobile on her own - Was still unable to play cards

Year 3 / hot baths daily: When the husband switched to daily 90-minute hot baths at 105°F: - Came back walking on her own, without even a cane - All joints normal except a little swelling on one knee - Back to playing cards with friends - "She walked for me last week. Walked for me. Walked on her own. Got up out of the wheelchair and walked on her own without even a cane."

Further progress (later seminar accounts): Described as going on a cruise with her husband for the first time, ten years after beginning the diet. "That's a virtual miracle. Because in the medical model, they say that nobody ever recovers from rheumatoid arthritis that's that advanced."

Aajonus's reflection on her healing: "I would say she didn't heal much in that time. In that whole 6 years that she's been on the diet, I saw little healing. It was cleaning out garbage out in the waste products that were causing all the blown out joints."

The 14-Year-Old Granddaughter of a Senator, Crohn's-Induced Arthritis
  • Crohn's disease causing leaky gut, food depositing in joints
  • Knees as big as Aajonus's head; hips huge; elbows beginning to enlarge
  • Treated by doctors with medication and antibiotics for two and a half years, no improvement
  • Put on the Primal Diet: lots of eggs and lots of dairy
  • Nine months later: completely normal
  • Two years later she went back to eating like her peers (cooked food) and relapsed

This is described as one of the quickest recoveries Aajonus documented for this type of arthritis.

The Man with Mercury/Thimerosal Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Came to Aajonus at age 20, on crutches, essentially in a wheelchair
  • Had to be carried up four steps to Aajonus's house
  • Joints everywhere were swollen
  • Cause: mercury from thimerosal-sprayed marijuana smoked for approximately three years starting at age 15
  • On the Primal Diet: over approximately 10 years

  • "His joints are now just a little bit bigger than normal. But he's working, he's typing, he's functioning, he's walking. He has a child and a wife. He's normal."
The Young Man Who Stung Himself with Bees
  • Came to Aajonus at age 20
  • Knees "this big," joints everywhere affected
  • On crutches, essentially wheelchair-bound
  • Had to be carried up four steps

Crohn's Disease Reversal Timeline (Relevant to Arthritis)

Since 90% of arthritis stems from Crohn's/leaky gut, the timeline for reversing Crohn's directly impacts arthritis recovery: - "Where it used to take me sometimes 5 years to 6 years to reverse Crohn's, now I can do it in 6 to 8 months", thanks to the cheese protocol eaten every 15, 20, or 30 minutes.

Joint Replacement Recovery

For people who have already received joint replacements and are experiencing ongoing pain: - Raw meat twice daily eliminated crippling replacement pain in most cases within 2 weeks - Some required 4–5 weeks - Healing the underlying cause is still required or problems will develop elsewhere

General Pattern of Healing

Aajonus noted that on the diet, "every illness that you've had in your life will revisit you in the exact order that you last spent through it. So the diseases you had as an infant will be the last ones you go through again as adulthood. So it just goes backwards." This means arthritic symptoms will recur during detoxification as the compounds stored from old episodes of cooking and poisoning are expelled.

When symptoms are cycling, changing, and moving every day, healing is occurring properly. When someone is stuck in a constant arthritic ache for six months to a year without change, they are not eating properly.

Questions Aajonus Answered

Questions Aajonus Answered

  • Q: Can you talk a little bit about arthritis?

Aajonus: "Well, arthritis is a real prick. I had arthritis from a very young age. It's a lack of fats, again, in the joints. And a lot of times it's not diagnosed, but the bursas are not producing the fluids to lubricate the... Okay, so the bursa, in many cases, the bursa is manufacturing a toxic, acidic fluid. So that even irritates the joints more. It's not getting lubricated properly. So that creates viruses, infections, yeasts in the joints. What that does, it eats away at the cartilage. And when the cartilage is gone, usually in your fifties, then you are starting to eat away at the bones."

  • Q: In situations where people have their knee and hip replacement surgeries, is that about all you can do at that point?

Aajonus: "Yes. That's about it. It's so gone, so eaten away. There is no regenerating that. It would take as long as it took them to deteriorate to rebuild it. So it's a big problem. So what you have to do is eat the right kind of fats. And those people who have a tendency towards arthritis really need to stay away from cooked beef. If they are going to eat any kind of cooked meat, cooked chicken is okay once or twice a week. Otherwise they just need to stay away from cooked meats."

  • Q: Any particular emphasis in terms of our diet for arthritis?

Aajonus: "Watch the mineral, because just remember the cartilage and the bone are very mineral concentrated because they are solid... Oyster, shellfish. Right. Deep sea fish. Chicken. Chicken is loaded with fat and it's good to lubricate the joint. And chicken fat. I mean if you get a chicken and right around the back end there are these pockets of fat. And I go to Wild Oats, you know, and I say, I want you to say really big pockets of fat there."

  • Q: There is an arthritis cure on the internet that is basically a therapist injecting the joint with a formula of Lidocaine and common dextrose. What do you think about it?

Aajonus: "Rather than curing arthritis, I think that the therapy is not a remedy but a destruction of the nerves in the joints and a loss of pain is all that is beneficially experienced. Most often, pain is Nature's way of telling us something is wrong, that toxicity has accumulated in an area or system from malnutrition, accident or contamination/poisoning. If we ignore the cause of pain, often toxins remain and disease develops... I have seen several of those cases end in joint replacement because pain that was designed to make us change and correct the way we feed and treat our bodies was ignored. Some of the joints in those patients dissolved painlessly from toxicity without further notice, and mobility was lost."

  • Q: I started re-experiencing some old symptoms of arthritis when I got on your diet and you said it was a cleanse. You said there was a recipe for a pain reliever?

Aajonus: "Oh, yeah. Okay. You know, I have those various pain recipes in the book. I've improved on it even more because I keep experimenting because I hate pain. I'm a real pussy when it comes to that. Pussycat. And I do not like pain. So I do anything I can not to suffer."

He then addressed the person's specific case: "He had some arthritis problems and he stopped eating meat years ago and been a vegetarian for a very long time. And those symptoms went away. However, he didn't feel good as a vegetarian. Now he's on to raw meat. He feels good, but he has a little bit of pain. The uric acid and the lipid oxides that form from the cooked meat that mainly cause that kind of storage and problem in the joints, rheumatoid arthritis or just arthritis or rheumatitis, are caused by that compound and it needs to be secreted and when you get the raw meat in the system, sometimes it will cause them to expel and you'll have symptoms of that disease."

  • Q: What about since toxins are so difficult to get out of the bone marrow, would a hyperbaric pressure chamber help?

Aajonus: "I haven't found that works at all. The only [thing that works...]", passage continues but does not complete the sentence with an alternative.

  • Q: [Written question] My father's knee and bone are damaged and he cannot walk. It is worn through. Should he get an artificial knee? Could it be prevented? Is this bone/cartilage worn through part of Crohn's?

Aajonus: "At this late stage, to cleanse and heal his condition could take 2–5 years. If he gets an artificial knee, he could be walking painlessly in several months. However, if he does not resolve the problem that caused his joint deterioration, he will have problems elsewhere and pain in the replaced knee. Many people with replacement joints suffered unending pain until they began eating raw meat. Most sufferers completely eliminated crippling replacement pain within 2 weeks of consuming raw meat twice daily. Others required 4–5 weeks. In those situations, it did not matter whether the sufferer consumed red or white meat for healing. What should be considered is if red meat is causing the sufferer to be more anxious. If so, then s/he should eat white meat. After surgery, meat and the Lubrication Formula are most often imperative."

  • Q: [Written question] I have been in great pain on my right side, particularly the right hip... I have been told I have a slight spinal rotation... a rotated right hip or sacroiliac joint problem for 24 years... The MRI showed a hip labrum tear... bursitis on both sides of the hip... In your philosophy what is bursitis and how is it eased?

This question was received but the complete answer is not fully preserved in the source passages.

  • Q: [Attending person consultation] Both hands can go limp. Signs of rheumatoid arthritis in both hands, especially in the left hand, right thumb...

Aajonus identified: "Severe protein deficiency in the ovaries, both of them, especially the right. Swelling, a lot of water..." and connected it to systemic deficiency.

  • Q: [Attending person consultation] I just had surgery on my left foot and I'm still recovering. I had a fusion done because one of my joints had become arthritic due to trauma. Is there anything I can do?

Aajonus: "A hot water bottle is the best thing you can do. The pain formula once a day with a meat meal, that will help it the quickest."

  • Q: [Person consulting] One hand got injured, and then only this hand got, like, spurs, arthritis, but the other hand did not get that.

Aajonus: "Well, that just means you have a lot of toxicity in that one hand and in that joint. 90% of arthritis and rheumatism comes from leaky gut, like Crohn's disease. Let's say you don't produce a lot of mucus, and your own digestive acids eat through the thin mucus that you have."

  • Q: [Attending person with visible joint problems] What about my condition?

Aajonus (to person with tendon-shrinkage type): "It looks like it's causing irritations and it's been going on for a very long time, even before you were vegetarian. The tendons have been shrinking and it causes the joints to rub together and that creates the inflammation. So yours isn't a normal arthritic and rheumatic condition. Yours is from irritation of rubbing together. It isn't just toxicity going in there and causing inflammation. Yours is actually having bruised the cartilage. And what will help that? Raw cream and eating lots of chicken. It will provide the fats to lubricate the area so it can allow it to stretch, so it has elasticity. And the white meat so you can build cells to build it out so it won't be so tight."

He prescribed: "Meat should be about 60% chicken 20% red meat and 20% fish. Anytime that you eat red meat, you should have it with fish. Chicken is fine alone. When you can get a hold of raw cream, just drink it as if it were water... You need walnuts and you need to blend them with egg, peanut oil or butter and honey. Without the carob."

  • Q: [Person consulting, rheumatoid arthritic signs with molds in nails and cartilage] What do you recommend?

Aajonus: "You have lots of molds in your nails and your cartilage so it looks like you're moving toward rheumatoid arthritis so you need lots of lubrication formulas. Don't lose any more weight... And lots of butter. Butter is going to help you a lot."

  • Q: [Seminar attendee with diabetic-type dryness and joint problems] What is happening to me?

Aajonus: "You are so dry inside that your tendons are starting to buckle. It's even happening in your fingers. What that happens, usually when that shrinks like that, it causes the joints to go together and cause arthritis rheumatism or rheumatoid arthritis. And it just starts forcing the joints to rub and grind until they become infected, deteriorating. So you need a lot of fats and a lot of meat to help regenerate cells because right now you just keep losing more and more cells and everything gets tighter and smaller until you're going to have a tough time, be in pain everywhere. So that's where it looks like it's leading. So you need lots of fats and lots of meats together to regenerate the cells and to lubricate everything."

  • Q: [Person with early arthritic signs looking at joint problems developing] What do you see?

Aajonus: "You have some, looks like some joint problems because of the lack of protein to utilize the minerals properly. So it looks like we'd be going into rheumatoid arthritis probably within about ten years. Probably be crippled from it if you don't want it to change to get on to a good diet. Circulation is very poor, very poor fats all over. You get cold very easily... I'm going to recommend that you eat lots of fat with your meat and eat at least pound and a half a day."
