Vision and focus disorders, in Aajonus's framework, are characterized by a cluster of observable symptoms: blurred vision, eye fatigue, inability to see far or near, squinting, light sensitivity, itchy eyes, bloodshot or burning eyes and eyelids, and the progressive worsening of eyesight over time. These are not isolated mechanical failures of the eye as a physical structure but rather systemic expressions of nutritional deficiency, toxic accumulation, nerve damage, and insufficient raw fats and proteins reaching the ocular tissues.
Aajonus's Definition
Vision and focus disorders, in Aajonus's framework, are characterized by a cluster of observable symptoms: blurred vision, eye fatigue, inability to see far or near, squinting, light sensitivity, itchy eyes, bloodshot or burning eyes and eyelids, and the progressive worsening of eyesight over time. These are not isolated mechanical failures of the eye as a physical structure but rather systemic expressions of nutritional deficiency, toxic accumulation, nerve damage, and insufficient raw fats and proteins reaching the ocular tissues.
Aajonus consistently treats the eye not as a self-contained organ with a unique pathology, but as a tissue deeply embedded in the body's broader terrain, a tissue that reflects what is happening in the blood, the nervous system, the lymphatic system, and the digestive system. In iridology, which he practiced and incorporated into every full consultation, the iris itself maps the condition of every organ and tissue system in the body. Clouding, discoloration, lesions, and structural irregularities in the iris are visible expressions of what is happening inside the body. The white of the eye, the sclera, also communicates condition, redness indicates poor blood quality; yellowness indicates excessive bile, jaundice, or hepatitis; bluish tints in the whites can indicate lymphatic problems.
The cornea itself can accumulate layers of scar tissue, can be warped (either flattened or extended), and can discharge toxins directly through its surface and through the tear ducts. When the cornea warps, this creates the conditions for near-sightedness or far-sightedness, depending on the direction of the warp. Aajonus's position is that this warping is a result of poor eye health, specifically poor nutrition, not a random mechanical failure, and that laser surgery does not address the underlying condition. He stated that if a person is on a very poor diet, warped corneas corrected surgically will warp again within five years in approximately 90% of cases.
Cataracts specifically are defined by Aajonus as the collection of organic waste that clouds the cornea and/or crystalline lens of the eye. Glaucoma involves a hormonal problem and a saturation of tissues, analogous to what occurs in diabetes. He described glaucoma as typically linked to excessive adrenal hormone production, or in diabetics, to the binding of sugars and hormones like insulin, which act as acids that eat away at protective sheaths on the nerves of the eye.
---
Root Cause
Aajonus identified multiple root causes operating simultaneously or independently:
The most consistently and emphatically cited root cause of blurred vision in particular is a deficiency in red meat. Aajonus stated this explicitly multiple times across different workshops and in written responses:
"I haven't found any correlation there. However, people who do have eye problems especially blurring I find it's a red meat deficiency. Fish does not alter it. Chicken, turkey does not alter it. But red meat will alter it within an hour or so."
This is stated as an empirical finding, not a theoretical one. Aajonus emphasized that he does not include anything in his work that has not been empirically proven to him. He found that even though the eye is primarily neurological tissue, which would theoretically suggest that white meats (which regenerate neurological tissue faster than red meat) should be the remedy, in practice, feeding people white meats all day long did not change focus, clarity of vision, or even soothing of the eye. Only red meat produced improvement, and it did so within an hour of eating.
Red meat helps maintain the eye muscles specifically. He recommended at least 4 ounces of red meat daily as a baseline for maintaining eye muscle health and preventing deterioration.
Caffeine in any form, including chocolate, coffee, tea, and soda, damages nerves and the brain, and in many people it directly damages the eyes. This damage can be inter-generational: caffeine consumed by a mother during pregnancy and breast-feeding can cause poor vision in her child.
Even people eating a predominantly raw diet who continued to consume caffeine did not improve their vision. Either their eyesight remained poor or it continued a slower progression toward poorer eyesight.
Excess adrenaline causes dryness, nerve damage, and in some people creates poor vision. Cataracts are usually found in hyperactive individuals with high adrenaline levels who constantly exhaust blood and body fat levels. This same mechanism, excess adrenal activity, is also implicated in glaucoma.
Medicinal insulin causes vision disorders. In diabetics, improperly assimilated sugars and medicinal insulin deprive the eyes of certain critical nutrients. Cataracts are explicitly cited as a consequence of this in diabetics.
Glaucoma is linked to a hormonal problem and saturation of tissues. Most diabetics, in Aajonus's observation, eventually become glaucomic. People with excessive adrenal glands also develop cataracts and glaucoma. The hormone binding with sugars creates an acidic environment that eats sheaths away, a process he describes as progressively destructive to the delicate nerve structures of the eye.
Toxins, including industrial chemicals, heavy metals, solvents, and pharmaceutical residues, accumulate in the iris, cornea, and surrounding tissues, contributing to vision decline. The iris itself shows this accumulation as brown, green, or dark discoloration that obscures the naturally healthy coloration of eye fibers. Aajonus described his own eyes as having been dark brown and green when he was 20, showing the degree of toxicity in his body at that time, and progressively clearing to blue as he followed the Primal Diet for decades.
He also described a patient whose eyes were black, not brown, from layers and layers of accumulated toxins including oxidized, rusting iron and blackened iodine, all from air pollution. She had grown up in the center of London near four airports and had inhaled jet fuel particulates and heavy metals for 28-30 years.
Aajonus specifically noted that consuming a lot of coconut cream can cause many toxins from the brain to discharge through the tear ducts, and this discharge temporarily affects vision. He described this as a detoxification process, not a disease process.
When acids from dissolving tumors, lime juice applied directly to the eye, or other caustic substances contact the cornea, they can scar it severely, layer by layer. Aajonus described his own experience of having cancer that ate through his nose and burned his cornea during one night of tumor dissolution, causing 8 layers of scar tissue and complete blindness in that eye according to the optometrist's assessment. This represents an extreme case of toxic acid causing corneal damage.
Aajonus described his own experience: he had perfect vision all his life, got a computer approximately five years before sharing this account, and within two years his eyes started deteriorating. He attributed this to the radiation from the screen. He obtained a radiation screen but stated it did not heal the problem, only experimenting with raw egg white in the eyes, which came to him intuitively during meditation, restored his vision to near-normal within approximately one month.
The eye can go through its own detoxification, expressing symptoms that feel like irritation, burning, discharge, sensitivity to light, weeping, difficulty focusing in a small circular zone, and sensations like someone poking the eye or blowing cool air into it. Aajonus interpreted these not as diseases developing but as toxins being discharged through the cornea.

Why This Happens
Vision and focus disorders map primarily across multiple principles in Aajonus's framework:
Root Cause / Terrain Theory: The foundational causes, toxic accumulation, hormonal excess, nutritional deficiency, pharmaceutical damage, are terrain-theory explanations.
Cooked Food: Caffeine, processed foods, medicinal insulin, and medications are cooked-food/industrial-food injuries. The degradation of eye health is explicitly linked to diets based on processed and microwave foods, as illustrated in the case of the girl raised on McDonald's and TV dinners.
Detoxification: Corneal detox, tear duct discharge, bloodshot eyes during detox cycles, and temporary vision impairment from coconut cream-triggered brain detoxification all fall under detoxification dynamics.
Raw Food: Recovery of vision on the raw diet, the use of raw egg white and raw butter in the eyes, the consumption of raw red meat to reverse blurred vision, these are raw food solutions.
How to Eat: The specific pairings, quantities, and timing of red meat with cream, butter with pineapple juice for corneal reworking, and foods eaten to support eye health (red and orange foods, carrot juice, raw tuna, bell peppers, etc.) fall under practical eating guidance.
Sovereignty: Aajonus's critique of laser eye surgery, his refusal of conventional medical treatment for his own eye injury, his observation that ophthalmologists have no instructions for improving eye health prior to or after surgery, and his claim that medical technology is designed for repeated treatment (planned obsolescence) rather than healing, all fall under Sovereignty.

Symptoms Reframed
He also noted that blurred vision accompanying eyestrain is specifically a red-meat deficiency and that eating red meat with unheated honey corrects it.
---
Food Protocol
Red meat is the cornerstone remedy for vision and focus disorders, specifically blurred vision. Aajonus recommended:
- Quantity: At least 4 ounces of red meat daily as a maintenance dose
- Effect timing: Vision improvement occurs within one hour of eating red meat in cases of acute blurred vision
- Pairings: Red meat with a little cream, he specified "a tiny bit of cream", enhanced the effect. Red meat with unheated honey corrects blurred vision accompanying eyestrain.
- Types of red meat: Lamb, beef, venison, any red meat
- Why it works empirically but not theoretically: Aajonus acknowledged the paradox. The eye is primarily neurological tissue. Neurological tissue is normally regenerated faster by white meats (fish, fowl). Yet in empirical experiments, feeding white meats all day long to people with blurry vision did not change focus, clarity, or soothing of the eye. Only red meat worked, and it worked within an hour. He stated: "When they ate red meat, focus and vision would improve within an hour of eating the red meat. So, theoretically it should be the white meat but not empirically."
Raw egg white from antibiotic-free and hormone-free chickens is one of the most important and consistently described topical treatments for the eyes. It has "almost the same chemistry as your tears but has more protein so it feeds and strengthens the eye."
Application Protocol: - Take approximately half a teaspoon of raw egg white - Place it in an eye cup - Tilt the head back and stretch the eyelid upward - Roll the egg white around in the eye to coat completely - This takes only about three minutes to absorb - Wipe excess from around the outside with a damp cloth to prevent crusting (described as acids dumping through the eye sockets and tear ducts) - Can be done as many times a day as desired
Simplified application (without eye cup): - Tap egg white onto the little finger - Pull the lower eyelid down - Look upward - Rub along the white of the eye - Roll the eye around to distribute
Frequency: - Once daily for general vision improvement (specifically recommended before bedtime) - Two to three times daily for glaucoma, because it feeds the eye, similar to applying nutrients topically to the neck for absorption into the body
Aajonus's own case: After computer screen radiation damaged his previously perfect vision over approximately two years, he began putting egg white in his eyes. Within one month his eyes were almost back to normal.
Case described: A woman whose prescription was so strong she had "Coke bottle-thick glasses", doing egg white every day and butter twice a week, went to very thin glasses in a five-year period.
Corneal scar tissue reduction: Aajonus described his own case of having 8 layers of corneal scar tissue from cancer acid burning his eye during one night, being told by an optometrist that cornea transplant was the only option, and seven years later having only one layer of scar tissue remaining and being able to pass the vision chart at a driver's test with that eye. The protocol was egg white in the morning and butter at night.
Raw butter, especially sheep's butter, which Aajonus noted is "a little bit more effective than cow's butter", is applied to the eyes before sleep.
Application Protocol: - Melt a dab of butter in the palm - Pull the lower eyelid down, look upward - Rub the butter along the white of the eye (same technique as egg white) - Roll the eye to coat - Already be in bed because it will blur the eyes for 10-20 minutes (or "maybe an hour", both timeframes mentioned in different passages) - Do not rinse
Alternative Protocol when detoxifying through the cornea: Aajonus gave this more detailed instruction in a Q&A response: - Pull the lower eyelid downward - Look upward - Rub a dab of raw butter onto the lid - Lift the upper eyelid along with the lower eyelid - Roll the eyes like a "circus master" - Leave it there, do not rinse - He noted: "Do not be afraid of doing this; hundreds of people have done it and it works wonders, better than egg white"
Butter with pineapple juice for corneal reworking: A tiny bit of butter with a drop of pineapple juice can be used in the eye to rework the cornea for cases of near- or far-sightedness. This is described as a slow process taking years.
Bell peppers, especially yellow bell peppers, help improve eyesight. They are best eaten with a meat meal.
Eating plenty of live foods, especially raw fats with foods that are red or orange, indicating abundant vitamin A content, soothes and nourishes eyes. Specific foods named: - Carrot juice (raw fresh) - Apricots - Watermelon - Raw tuna - Tomatoes - Oranges - Cantaloupe - Salmon - Raw fresh tuna (named twice, specifically for eyestrain)
These foods are cited both for vision disorders generally and specifically for eyestrain.
Eating unsalted raw butter is described as helpful for eyestrain.
For cataracts specifically, Aajonus described alternating coconut cream and lime juice, using egg white in the eye. He confirmed egg white should continue to be used during this protocol.
In response to a glaucoma question, Aajonus referenced his book's recommendation on page 266 for: olive oil, tomatoes, honey, and fresh pepper once to twice daily with fish once daily. (The questioner cited this as coming from his book and asked for clarification.)

Recovery Timeline
He recommended people continue their dietary protocol "at least until their eyes clear up the yellow and the brown." He mentioned mainly finding three colors in the iris that indicate toxicity states: blue (healthy base), green, amber, and the problematic brown/black showing accumulation.

Questions Aajonus Answered
- Q: Vision Problems, Near-Field Blurring (New Onset)
Question: "I am having problems with my vision. Anything 12 inches from eyes becomes blurry. This is something new. I have never had any vision problems before. What do you suggest for my vision? Why is this occurring with my eyes?"
Aajonus's Response: "Sometimes, consuming a lot of coconut cream causes many toxins from the brain to discharge from the tear ducts, and that affects vision temporally. As I stated in my books, putting a little egg white, once daily, in the eyes helps vision, especially before bedtime."
---
- Q: Eyesight Deteriorating, Damage to One Eye, Unable to Focus
Question: "Other than putting egg white in my eye, what should I do daily? And using pinhole glasses and eye exercises and perhaps looking at the sun a bit. Do you know what I could do to prevent my eyesight from getting worse? It's getting worse and I don't want to wear glasses, as the last time I started to do that they for sure got worse. I can only focus and see out of one eye due to damage to the other one. You mentioned something about cataracts, or something stacking up on our last consultation and were surprised I could see as well as I did, if I recall correctly. What do you suggest?"
Aajonus's Response: "Red meat helps maintain eye muscles, so be certain to eat at least 4 oz. of red meat daily. Also, some people have had eye improvement by putting a little raw no-salt butter into their eyes daily before sleep and egg white, mornings. Bell peppers, especially yellow, help improve eyesight, best eaten with a meat meal."
(This same question and answer appears in two source documents with nearly identical phrasing.)

- Q: Eye Problem, Right Eye Irritated, Poking Sensation, Light Sensitive, Close-Vision Focusing Problem, Wart Virus Concern
Question: "I seem to have developed a problem in my right eye. It has started really bothering me for about the last week or so. It gets easily tired. That's aggravating when trying to read small print. I can feel the eye. The best I can describe it is: it feels a little like the aftereffect of someone poking you in the eye. Or, like someone is constantly blowing a light stream of cool air into the eye. I don't feel my left eye at all. The right eye seems more light sensitive than it has ever been. It is a little weepy. It tears more than my left eye. Far vision works fine. But, with close vision, I seem to have a little focusing problem in a small circular zone. I have a small wart on my left cheek that I started putting the lemon peel on a few days ago. It is going away. Could I have contaminated my right eye with some of the wart virus by unintentionally touching the wart then brushing my right eye? I'm not sure what all this is. Can my eye be going through some type of detox? I can't recall ever feeling anything like this."
Aajonus's Response: "It sounds as if you are detoxifying your eyes through the cornea. I suggest that you pull your lower eyelid downward, look upward, rub a dab of raw butter onto the lid, lift the upper eyelid along with the lower eyelid and roll your eyes like a circus master. Leave it there and do not rinse. Do not be afraid of doing this; hundreds of people have done it and it works wonders, better than egg white."

- Q: Glaucoma, Reading Vision Decrease, Eye Congestion, Floaters
Question: "With all the reading I am required to do lately, I am having issues with my eyes, especially my left eye. I believe this is the one with glaucoma. What issues? Mainly the decrease in my reading vision and my eye feels like it is congested, if that's possible. Also I have a lot of annoying floaters in my vision. I looked up glaucoma recommendations in your book and now I have questions: 1.) Should I stop eating cheese? I have one piece every morning as soon as I get out of bed. 2.) Should I be eating the olive oil, tomatoes, honey and fresh pepper once to twice daily with fish once daily? 3. [continued]"
(Aajonus's full written response to this question is not fully preserved in the provided sources, though the book protocol of olive oil, tomatoes, honey, and fresh pepper once to twice daily with fish once daily is referenced as his existing recommendation.)

- Q: Blurred Vision Accompanying Eye Fatigue, Is It Related to Brain Function?
Workshop Question: A participant asked whether blurry vision and fuzzy thinking were related, and whether the process of gaining and losing weight to remove degenerative tissue would help vision improve.
Aajonus's Response: "I've never seen that the coloration of the eyes relates to vision. I've seen people with really manure-colored eyes that had perfect vision and people with clear, clear blue eyes that looked like they were fairly clean of any plaque but were blind as a bat. I haven't found any correlation there. However, people who do have eye problems especially blurring I find it's a red meat deficiency. Fish does not alter it. Chicken, turkey does not alter it. But red meat will alter it within an hour or so."
He also addressed whether the weight cycling would help vision: "Will that help your vision improve, James?", indicating he was exploring whether this approach might help, though he noted uncertainty about scar tissue specifically.
---
- Q: Can the Optic Nerve Be Regenerated (in Glaucoma)?
Question: Can the optic nerve be regenerated?
Aajonus's Response: "Okay, usually when somebody has glaucoma they have a hormonal problem and a saturation of tissues, just like a diabetic. Most diabetics go glaucomic. Most people with excessive adrenal glands also get that. They get cataracts and glaucoma. An overabundance of adrenalin in the body. Or insulin. Any kind of hormone that will bind with sugars. Because the sugars are an acid. They eat sheaths away." [The continuation of his answer on regeneration is not fully preserved in the sources, though the context indicates he addressed the difficulty of nerve regeneration in this hormonal/acid-saturated environment.]

- Q: Egg White in the Eye, What Does It Actually Do?
Workshop exchange:
Student: "So just in general, egg white in the eye for any kind of vision problem."
Aajonus: "Right."
Student: "And the egg white is more alkaline, is it?"
Aajonus: "I don't know. My eyes all of a sudden... I got a computer about five years ago and within two years my eyes started going bad and I've had perfect vision forever. So I knew it had to do with the screen that I had at the time. So I got a radiation screen. It didn't heal it. And I was just meditating on it one day, and all of a sudden egg whites came into my head. So I started experimenting. And no kidding. Within a month my eyes were almost the same. Back to normal."
Student: "Did the egg whites help your eyes?"
Aajonus: "Oh yes. Definitely."
Student: "It restore them?"
Aajonus: "Yes."
Student: "And you put it then there every day?"
Aajonus: "No, I did during the period, but when it got to the point where they were well, I stopped."
Student: "And just put it under the lid and roll it around."
Aajonus: "Just put it on your little finger and just look up and put it on the white of the eye itself and then roll it."
Student: "Once a day?"
Aajonus: "Well, for somebody who has got glaucoma, they should do it two or three times a day. Because it actually feeds the eye, like if you were to put certain nutrients on your neck, it would be absorbed into your body."

- Q: Blurred Vision as a Vision Impairment Preventing Reading
Seminar exchange, someone at a workshop described their vision impairment as being so significant they could not read:
Person: "You know, with my vision it's really an impairment because I can't see, I can't read."
Aajonus: "That means that you're in every situation where I've advised eating lots of protein when that happens, usually within an hour the vision is restored. So it means you need protein immediately and not eggs. You can put egg white in your eyes and that will help. But actually eating meat and beef, when you have blurred vision for some reason, not everything is logical, not everything is linear. You figure that the eye is mainly neurological tissue and should go along with all the other reactions that I've had, utilizing fish and fowl to regenerate neurological tissue faster than you can regenerate neurological tissue by eating lamb or beef or venison, any of those. However, when it comes to the vision of the eye, when you start getting blurred vision, it's a low red meat substance that clears it. So if you start getting blurred vision, you know you need to eat red meat real soon, right away."
---
- Q: Eye Burning Treated with Egg White
Seminar account: "Sometimes when I feel it [eye] burning and it turns red, I will use the egg white. Like on my way here, all of the sudden it started burning and was irritated so put in some egg white." [This is presented as a case of someone following Aajonus's protocol in real time.]
---
- Q: Are Reports of Improved Vision Common on the Diet?
Workshop question: "Do you get reports from people on the diet, reports of improved vision in general on your site?"
Aajonus: "Yes, the most radical is one. There's a doctor in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who is a psychologist and works for the government. She's an expert witness. She has had asthma all of her life, and the whites of her eyes were always bright red, so it looked like she was always stoned. So here is a doctor up on the witness stand, looking like she's stoned on dope, and how credible is that?"
He then described her Coke-bottle-thick glasses and how after approximately a year and three to nine months on the diet, she called him panicking that she could not see anything. He responded: "You're 53, 54 years old. You've been on a Coke diet for up until a year and a half ago." He told her to go to the optometrist. Her prescription had been reduced by 50%.
He described what he had told her to do for the redness: "just rinse them, not rinse them, apply egg white in your eye, take about a half a teaspoon and put it in an eye cup and then put your head back and stretch your eyelid up and then roll all the egg white around in there and then" [account continues with the standard application instructions].
---
- Q: Eye Injury from Acid during Tumor Dissolution (Case Aajonus Himself Experienced)
Aajonus's account: "I made the mistake of putting lime juice in my eye and now everything is blurry."
Aajonus's explanation of this situation (in context of someone else's similar injury): "You scarred the cornea, probably only have one layer left. When I had the cancer that ate 1/3 of my nose away, put a hole right here and burned through the bone, one night the acid from the melting of the tumor got into my eye and burned my cornea, 8 layers of scar tissue. I was blind in that eye. That was a few hours in one night damaged the eye. That's how bad the compounds are when you start dissolving tumors. You have to have the nutrients and you have to protect yourself from those fluids discharging...eyes. So, I went to the optometrist and she said, 'You have 8 layers of scar tissue at a minimum and you have to have a cornea transplant. That's the only way you will ever be able to see out of that eye.' So, 7 years later I went to have my driver's test and my vision passed. I was actually able to read the chart with that left eye. When I went back to the optometrist, she said, 'You only have one layer of scar tissue left.'"
He then described the protocol: egg white and butter, "egg white in the morning and butter at night. Take the egg white and tap it onto your little finger, pull your lower eyelid down and look up and rub it along the white. Roll your eye around to get the egg white all over the eye. Then, at night, you do the same with a dab of butter that you have melted in your palm. Make sure you're already in bed because you'll have a fog over your eyes for 10-20 minutes."

- Q: Is There a Correlation Between Iris Color and Vision Quality?
Workshop exchange:
Participant: Implying possible correlation between iris discoloration and vision problems.
Aajonus: "I've never seen that the coloration of the eyes relates to vision. I've seen people with really manure-colored eyes that had perfect vision and people with clear, clear blue eyes that looked like they were fairly clean of any plaque but were blind as a bat. I haven't found any correlation there."
---
- Q: Whites of the Eyes Going Bluish, What Does This Indicate?
Question: A person noticed their daughter's whites of the eyes were noticeably bluish tinted compared to other family members. Asking if this is part of the condition.
Aajonus's response is referenced but not fully reproduced in these passages, he was addressing a complex case of a child with multiple issues including pain throughout the body, and the bluish whites were noted as something Aajonus would assess in the context of the overall case.
