The Liver's True and Only Natural Job

According to Aajonus, the liver has one job and one job only when a person is healthy and eating properly: it manufactures bile. That is its sole natural function. He stated this explicitly and repeatedly across many workshops:

"The liver has one job if you're healthy and eating properly. It manufactures bile to for the body to be able to form 60 varieties of cholesterol."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

The bile produced by the liver is extraordinarily concentrated and potent. As Aajonus described it, one drop of bile can digest a significant volume of fat. The liver creates this bile and delivers it to the gallbladder, which is simply a storage organ, it manufactures nothing of its own. The gallbladder then releases bile into the duodenum as needed when fats are consumed. This is the entire, proper, natural sequence.

The 60 varieties of cholesterol that bile enables the body to produce are divided into three equal thirds of function: - One-third to give the body energy and make it strong and healthy with good fuel - One-third to lubricate, protect, and cleanse the body - One-third to help clean the body

All three functions are described as equally important and vital. Without proper bile production, none of these cholesterol functions can be carried out correctly.

What Liver Problems Actually Are

Liver problems, in Aajonus's framework, are not diseases of the liver in the conventional sense. They represent a state in which the liver has been so overburdened, poisoned, and damaged, primarily by industrial chemicals, heavy metals, vaccines, medications, cooked fats, processed sugars, and other toxic substances, that it can no longer perform even its one natural job cleanly. Instead, it has been forced to take on additional functions it was never meant to carry, particularly acting as a secondary filter for toxins.

"So the liver is one place that they go. That doesn't mean the liver was designed to filter toxins. Only because we fill the body with so many toxins they have to go somewhere."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He described the modern liver as being forced to do five jobs instead of one, and the blood being forced to do two or three jobs instead of one, all because of the accumulated damage from modern diet and environment.

The Liver as a Protein Body

Aajonus was emphatic that the liver is fundamentally a protein body, not a fat body:

"The liver is very concentrated in protein. It's a protein that is almost as vital as the heart. It's easily digestible. It breaks down and it will help the body digest fats and utilize fats throughout the system better."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He also stated that the liver is the most concentrated protein anywhere in the body except the heart. This is critical because it means the liver's primary nutritional need for rebuilding is protein, not fat, though fats are needed to clean out the toxicity that a damaged liver creates.

Root Cause

Root Cause

Heavy Metal Poisoning

Aajonus identified heavy metals as one of the most prevalent and damaging causes of liver problems. He observed this directly through iridology readings in many individual consultations. He described cases where a third of the liver was poisoned with metals, where metals had basically poisoned the entire organ, and where metals were lodged throughout the liver creating scar tissue and dysfunction.

Sources of heavy metal contamination he identified in specific cases included: - Vaccines and injections (including childhood vaccinations, tetanus shots, immigration-related vaccinations) - Lead from paint during childhood exposure during house remodeling - Chemical exposure on cotton farms and in cotton gins - Welding, metal shavings and dust, solvents, paints - Barium (from barium milkshakes used in medical imaging)

He described metals in the liver as blocking duct function, specifically noting cases where "the duct going into it doesn't look like it's open very well."

Cooked and Processed Fats

Cooked fats, particularly fried fats, are identified as a major ongoing stressor to the liver. Aajonus explained that when fats are cooked, particularly fried, the body does not send them out to the liver properly because the liver cannot handle them. The liver becomes overwhelmed and the ducts become compromised.

He described the relationship between cooked fats and the liver in terms of cholesterol production failure: when the liver is damaged or toxic, the fats being produced are inadequate, slightly more acidic than normal, and the body must dilute them with water, causing water retention.

Alcohol and Fermented Sugars

Alcohol, both directly consumed and produced internally through excess carbohydrate fermentation in the body, was identified as a cause of liver scarring resembling cirrhosis. Aajonus described seeing livers that looked "almost like you've been an alcoholic" in people who had not been alcoholics but who had been on high-sugar or high-fruit diets, or high carbohydrate diets generally:

"It could be from your body manufacturing too much alcohol from too much throat and too much any carbohydrate can do it so it's almost like you have like a cirrhosis of the liver."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He also noted that fruitarians can have liver damage from too much sugar converting to alcohol and hardening the liver.

Pharmaceutical Drugs, Medications, and Vaccines

Across multiple consultations, Aajonus directly attributed liver damage to pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines. He observed that "whatever you took has damaged the liver" in a client whose doctors had been cycling through medications. He noted that "a vaccine or two went to [the liver] and destroyed your liver. Damaged it from digesting your fats."

He also identified chemotherapy as particularly damaging, and described medications broadly as creating volatile toxic conditions in the liver.

Pasteurized Dairy and Processed Foods

Aajonus listed pasteurized dairy (milk heated above 100°F) as a contributor to jaundice and liver contamination. He explained that undigested lactate, the milk sugar in pasteurized milk, strains the liver directly. He stated that carbohydrates from grains such as rice that cannot be completely digested or assimilated also collect in the liver and kidneys.

Excessive Carbohydrate Intake

Any carbohydrate that the body converts into alcohol internally can cause liver damage. This includes not just obvious sugars but also overripe fruits, grain-based carbohydrates, and situations where the body is producing too much internal alcohol from fermentation.

Lack of Fat-Processing Enzymes (Hepatitis Specifically)

For hepatitis in particular, Aajonus identified the root cause as lacking a particular fat-processing enzyme. This enzyme can be supplied by eating raw fresh unripe pineapple. He explained this across multiple discussions of hepatitis.

Why This Happens

Why This Happens

Liver problems span multiple principles in Aajonus's framework:

Root Cause / Terrain Theory: The liver is defined by its function, bile production, and liver problems arise when the terrain (the body's internal environment) is so poisoned and overburdened that the liver's functional integrity breaks down. This is a terrain-theory primary topic.

Cooked Food: The connection between cooked fats, processed sugars, pasteurized dairy, and liver damage is central. Cooked fats are specifically named as the substance the liver cannot handle.

Detoxification: The liver is the primary organ through which the body attempts industrial-chemical-level detoxification that bacteria, parasites, and fungi alone cannot accomplish. Hepatitis is described explicitly as a detoxification event, "the last ditch save for your liver", and liver problems generally represent a body trying to detoxify through an organ that was never designed for that job.

Microbes: Hepatitis is described as a viral/solvent detoxification process. Bacteria within the liver are described as a healing and cleansing mechanism in some workshop readings. The role of microbes in liver cleansing is affirmed.

How to Eat: The entire food protocol for liver rebuilding is practical dietary instruction, specific percentages of red meat versus white meat versus fish, specific quantities of butter and fats, juice formulas, timing, and pairings.

How to Live: Recovery timelines spanning years, lifestyle factors such as sun exposure for jaundice, and avoidance of ongoing toxic exposures all fall here.

Symptoms Reframed

Symptoms Reframed

Jaundice / Yellow Complexion

Jaundice is reframed as a sign that the liver is contaminated, exhausted, and malfunctioning, not a disease requiring suppression. It can result from liver contamination by pasteurized dairy, medications, chemicals; from kidney dysfunction; from inability to digest cooked lactate; from carbohydrate-based grain accumulation in the liver; or from overproduction of bile that the body is producing in place of proper fats.

Aajonus observed jaundice visually (yellow complexion, yellowing of the eyes) and read it through iridology. He noted:

"Because your liver doesn't have to digest anything. Doesn't have a lot of fats to digest and anything else", explaining why jaundice temporarily disappears during fasting.

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He interpreted bile in the system as the liver having shut down at some point and the body producing bile in place of fat to deal with toxins throughout the body.

Dark Circles Under the Eyes

Aajonus used dark circles as a diagnostic sign of liver problems:

"If I have somebody with very dark, black circles I know that there is a liver problem."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He distinguished liver from kidney involvement: if there is puffiness along with the darkness, the kidneys are also involved; if there is only darkness without puffiness, it is a liver problem.

Eating Disorders, Both Overeating and Anorexia

Both extremes of eating disorders were reframed as liver malfunction symptoms:

"You're going to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat. Eating disorders. If that liver doesn't function properly."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

On the other extreme:

"If the liver malfunctions, you could also be at the other end. Anorexic, inability to eat because you're so acidic, you're nauseous all the time because acidity dumps into the stomach. Then you get nauseous because your body has a tendency to want to vomit when all those poisons dump into the stomach."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He explained that these are the two extremes of reactions from a faulty or toxic liver, insatiable appetite on one end, complete inability to eat on the other.

Nausea

Nausea is reframed as the liver dumping acidic toxins into the stomach, causing the body to want to vomit. It is a sign of liver toxicity and bile accumulation, not an independent condition. He recommended specific foods to address it (see Food Protocol).

Indigestion / Inability to Digest Fat

Difficulty digesting fat, especially cooked or fried fats, is a direct symptom of liver compromise. Aajonus described this in personal terms: he himself had severe fat digestion problems for years due to a liver full of metals with a blocked duct.

White or Sand-Colored Stool

This was described as a sign that the liver is not producing bile. A husband's question submitted by email described stools as "white or sand-colored at best," and the question was raised whether this could result from eating only eggs and cheese. Aajonus identified this as a liver-not-producing-bile symptom, with both the liver's condition and the gallbladder's functioning relevant.

Water Retention

Water retention was connected to liver damage in cholesterol production. When the liver is damaged and cannot produce proper cholesterol, the fats produced are slightly more acidic than normal, and the body dilutes them with water to prevent tissue damage, producing edema and water retention.

Sores on the Face / Skin Conditions

Aajonus observed that bile throughout the system prevents proper healing and described sores on the face of a jaundiced person as very frequent in people who "can't heal properly. Because the bile prevents proper healing."

He also noted that bile reaching the skin can create lesions and psoriasis.

Fatigue and Energy Depletion

When the liver and lymphatic system are compromised, the blood is forced to do work it was not designed for. The result:

"You can expect as you get older to get more and more fatigued if your lymphatic system gets more and more jammed."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Cirrhosis Signs, Hardening and Scarring

A brown spot in the iris without fibers was described as indicating cirrhosis. Cirrhosis produces a liver that becomes "almost a solid mass, cirrhosed tissue", a condition Aajonus described as requiring coconut cream with cucumbers to dissolve the hardening most quickly. He linked cirrhosis to volatile toxic conditions, excess hormone-related toxins, and alcohol (both consumed and internally produced).

Hepatitis as a Detoxification Response

Aajonus fundamentally reframed hepatitis as a positive detoxification event, not a disease:

"Hepatitis is the last ditch save for your liver. That's why you don't want to stop hepatitis."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He described hepatitis as a viral process that starts detoxifying when the liver breaks down with industrial chemicals that normal bacterial, parasitic, and fungal cleaning processes cannot handle. The virus is described as a solvent made by cells, liver cells, to accomplish chemical-level cleaning that biological organisms cannot. He stated:

"Hepatitis is always the worst way of cleaning, but the only way of cleaning in that kind of a situation. So hepatitis is still a good thing, but not the best way to cleanse the liver."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

He reported approximately 200 cases of hepatitis with the liver in great condition after about 6 years.

Food Protocol

Food Protocol

Eating Raw Liver (Animal Liver)

Eating raw animal liver was one of Aajonus's most consistent and repeated recommendations for liver problems. He specified:

  • Eat liver once a week, or twice a week if truly wanting to promote liver rebuilding
  • Any kind of liver is appropriate: beef liver, chicken liver, lamb liver, they are interchangeable
  • Must be organic liver, because non-organic animals concentrate chemicals in their hormones, and those transfer when you eat the liver
  • Liver is the most concentrated protein source outside the heart, and the liver needs protein above all else to rebuild

For those who dislike liver, Aajonus described his own method:

"I always disliked liver so I would have to eat a spoonful at a time and I'd have to grind it up into a pate with some onion and I'd eat a spoonful at a time."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

A specific hepatitis recipe was given: put organic liver in a food processor with ginger and horseradish. If the person doesn't like ginger, use just horseradish. If they don't like horseradish, use the other ingredient alone. This was the hepatitis liver formula.

For babies, the liver formula was used in a specific preparation: approximately 2-3 tablespoons of liver blended into goat's milk with butter, honey, and cream. Even if vomiting occurred, the formula was generally recommended to continue because vomiting was described as the body discharging toxins that would otherwise harm development. A minimal starting dose of 1 tablespoon liver to 6 oz raw milk was suggested if persistent vomiting was a problem.

Fennel Root for Liver Spasms

Aajonus specifically described using fennel root for extreme liver conditions where the liver went into spasms:

"I tried cucumber and that didn't work, and I thought that would work, and it helped a little bit, but it didn't stop it. So I told them to take fennel root, fresh, raw. It's kind of like celery and you juice it or you grind it with the liver."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Fennel root was used as an antispasmodic for extreme liver spasms that no other approach resolved.

Raw Fats, Butter, Cream, Coconut

Fat intake is central to liver function and rebuilding. However, the critical distinction is raw fat versus cooked fat. Aajonus described forcing his own liver to work by eating a pound and a half to two pounds of butter per day, though he clarified this extreme was personal to his situation and not suggested for others at that level.

More generally, he recommended: - Eating lots of raw fat to help clean out toxicity that a damaged liver creates - Needing fats with proteins for the liver to work - Lots of fats as well to clean out the toxicity connected with bile

For cirrhosis specifically: fresh raw coconut cream with cucumbers was described as dissolving the hardening "the quickest."

Dates and Oil Protocol

For liver problems (general): - ½ pound nonsteamed dates - 12 tablespoons unsalted raw butter - OR 1 cup raw cream - OR 9 tablespoons never-heated-above-96°F fermented coconut oil or stone-pressed olive oil - Eaten each day until problems cease - Dates and oil can be eaten together or at separate times

Honey

"Eating plenty of unheated honey with everything, and in between, supplies the liver with plenty of enzymes for its work."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Honey was specified as unheated and used throughout the day, with food and between meals.

Raw Tomatoes, Alkalizing the Liver

"Eating 10-15 raw tomatoes for 1-2 days weekly alkalizes the liver."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

This was a weekly protocol, not a daily one, specifically for alkalizing the liver.

Raw Meat, Percentage and Type by Condition Severity

The percentage of red meat versus white meat versus fish was carefully calibrated to the degree of liver damage:

For severe liver conditions needing rapid rebuilding: - 70-80% red meat was sometimes recommended initially - Example: "To get the liver back together, to be able to utilize the other meats, you need to get the liver in shape. So for about two years and three months, I'd like you to eat at least 40%, or just about that, average out 40% red meat." - Then 40% chicken and 20% fish for two years plus - Another variation: "50% red meat, 50% white meat for a couple of years. And then lean more toward the white meat after that." - Another specific prescription: 70% red meat for approximately 2 years to rebuild liver, then 60% red meat for 6 years after that

For moderate liver conditions: - "Concentrate on maybe 50% red meat for a while until the liver is rebuilt" - 60% chicken, 20% red meat specified for a particular case with 20% functional liver

For specific liver/fish combination: - "Whenever you eat fish, that it be eaten with beef, and that'll help your liver. In your particular situation, the chemistry of the two will help the liver."

For advanced glycogen/AGE-related liver damage: - 40% red meat (normally would suggest only chicken or fish, but liver condition requires red meat) - 40% chicken - 20% fish - Always eat cheese with meat in this situation

Raw Eggs

Raw eggs were mentioned as a beneficial fat source for the liver (for cirrhosis: eating plenty of raw fat especially raw eggs with small amounts of cooked starches every day helps clean and tone the liver).

For specific severe liver damage with bile issues, Aajonus made an unusual recommendation of two egg whites (without yolk) twice per week: "That concentrated protein in that form will help build some mucus around the liver to help protect that liver." The yolk could be eaten at another time with red meat.

Pineapple, Enzymes for Fat Digestion and Hepatitis

Raw fresh unripe pineapple supplies the liver with enzymes for fat processing:

"Getting plenty of rest and sunshine, and eating no more than two foods in combination (like a smoothie made with 2-3 raw eggs and 3/4 cup pineapple), and no more than one cup of food at a time, make the liver strong again. Eating pineapple twice daily as often as possible supplies the liver with enzymes that make its work easier while it cleanses and rebuilds."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Aajonus also mentioned eating half a raw unripe pineapple daily for two weeks to supply the liver and pancreas with enzymes needed to remove hardened fat. He noted that eating a little pineapple with cooked fats would allow even those to be digested without creating tumor-building conditions.

Juice Formulas for Liver Rebuilding

Several specific juice formulas were given for liver conditions:

For liver rebuilding (general, with scarring): - 80% celery, 20% parsley - "I'm going to recommend 80% celery, 20% parsley. Not going to worry about taking the metals out with t[hat]..."

For liver with bile issues and blood supply needs: - 10% kale juice - 70% celery - 20% parsley - Recommended alongside the diet

For severe bile/jaundice: - Starting at 40% carrot juice content within juice blend, then reducing to 20%, then 10% over time - "The reason for that is bile is a very accurate substance. And if it comes to the skin, it can create lesions, it can create psoriasi[s]"

For general liver/biliary support: - Zucchini juice mentioned as helping pull bile out of the system - Zucchini as a late-night food also recommended

Quantity: 4-4.5 to 5 cups of juice per day could speed liver recovery by several months (potentially reducing 2.5-year recovery to about 2 years).

Jaundice-specific juice: - Drinking ½ cup [of juice], the passage was truncated but refers to avoiding raw milk for 3-7 days and using specific juices

Cheese for Liver Protection and Bile Binding

Cheese was recommended at two specific levels for liver problems:

1. Frequent small amounts to absorb and bind toxins being released by the liver, "I'd like you to eat cheese at least every 20 minutes. Yeah. A little cheese." This was for a person whose liver was very lumpy and full of chemical poisons from cotton processing.

2. For nausea related to liver toxicity: "When feeling nauseous, it is helpful to eat 1-2 teaspoons of no-salt-added raw unheated cheese with an equal quantity of fat, especially unsalted raw butter every 2-3 hours."

Cooked Starches (Limited Use for Bile Binding)

Cooked starches were described as useful for helping bind with bile and other toxins:

"The cooked starches are very good for that too, to help bind with that bile and other toxins."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Small amounts of cooked potato (half a baked potato with lots of butter) were mentioned for specific cases.

Coconut (Whole and Cream)

Whole coconut was specifically recommended for a case where the liver was approximately 20% functional:

"For some reason, the fibers are similar to the ill condition in your liver. It's going to help reverse it. Also walnuts."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

At least 1.5 whole coconuts per week was the prescription. Coconut cream was described as good also but whole coconut with fibers was specifically needed. For cirrhosis: fresh raw coconut cream with cucumbers dissolves the hardening fastest.

Walnuts (Unusual Recommendation)

Aajonus described walnuts as an unusual recommendation he does not normally make, but specified them for a particular case of liver at 20% function:

"You need walnuts and you need to blend them with egg, peanut oil or butter and honey. Without the carob."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Avocado

"An avocado would help this condition also, help your liver."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

Avocado was mentioned as a supporting food for a lumpy, chemically-poisoned liver. Aajonus also noted that avocado and papaya address intestinal pain rather than liver pain specifically, this was used as a diagnostic distinction.

Lemon Juice (for Cirrhosis)

For cirrhosis lighter nausea: drinking the fresh juice from about 6 lemons was recommended. At other times of day, eating plenty of raw fat (especially raw eggs) with small amounts of cooked starches every day helps clean and tone the liver.

Skimmed Milk Bath for Bile in Skin

In a specific case of bile coming out through the skin: "get some extra quarts of milk and suck the cream off and use the skin milk for a bath. That'll also help draw some of the bile that's in your skin out."

Honey and Butter Test for Liver vs. Intestinal Pain

As a diagnostic protocol: "If honey/butter works [for pain], it is your liver." If avocado and papaya work, it is the bowel/intestine. Aajonus gave a specific recipe for liver pain: honey and butter in ratio of 1:2 with ¼ tsp soft bee pollen, 30-60 minutes of every waking hour for at least one full day until pain subsides.

An alternative liquid formula for concurrent use: 2 oz lemon juice, 1 T lime juice, 2 oz unheated honey, 2 T raw cream blended together, added to 6 oz Apollinaris water, sipped.

Sunshine and Rest

For hepatitis specifically: getting plenty of rest and sunshine were recommended alongside dietary protocols. Aajonus described a case where a baby with jaundice was placed in the sun instead of receiving medical treatment, describing this as appropriate.

What to Avoid

What to Avoid

  • i

These are primary liver stressors. Cooked fats are not handled properly by the liver and the body does not send them out to the liver correctly. Fried fats were specifically called out as the worst.

  • ii

    > "Caffeine, chocolate, sodas, coffees and teas complicate liver problems and should not be consumed."

  • iii

This was stated directly in the liver problems section.

  • iv

Aajonus recommended avoiding raw milk for 3-7 days while the liver gets cleansed and alkalized in jaundice cases.

  • v

Fruit was generally restricted for liver rebuilding. Aajonus stated:

  • vi

    > "No fruit any fruit unless it's green like green papaya you know or coconut you know just has a small amount of sugar lots of enzymes."

  • vii

The reason: fruit sugar can convert to alcohol internally and harden the liver further. He gave the example: "Some fruitarians will have liver damage like that because there's too much sugar that turns into alcohol that hardens the liver."

  • viii

One person was told eating lots of fruit "would have destroyed you probably" given their level of liver scarring.

  • ix

Aajonus cautioned against carrot juice for some liver conditions. He specifically told people with liver conditions to stay away from carrot juice in some presentations. Where carrot juice was used (for bile), it was done at carefully reduced percentages (starting at 40%, reducing over time to 10%) to manage the bile-dissolving action carefully, because if bile comes to the skin it can create lesions and psoriasis.

  • x

A person who had been drinking 500ml to 2 liters of carrot juice per day for ten years prior to starting the Primal Diet asked about resuming, Aajonus's response was redirected to discussing skin disorders as detoxification rather than endorsing carrot juice resumption.

  • xi

    > "Avoid medication, chemicals, including foods grown with pesticides and herbicides, food treated with additives and preservatives."

  • xii

All pharmaceutical drugs were described as damaging to the liver. Chemotherapy for hepatitis was called "ridiculous", "They're trying to kill something that's not alive. The virus is not alive. You can't kill it."

  • xiii

    > "Avoid drinking any milk that has been heated above 100° Fahrenheit for the rest of your life."

  • xiv

Undigested lactate from pasteurized milk strains the liver directly.

  • xv

Aajonus was explicit that attempts to stop hepatitis are counterproductive:

  • xvi

    > "Hepatitis is the last ditch save for your liver. That's why you don't want to stop hepatitis."

  • xvii

When asked about health promotion products for liver and kidney cleanse, Aajonus redirected to discussing skin disorders and did not endorse such products. He described approaches like olive oil, garlic, and herbal liver flushes as "radical":

  • xviii

    > "To me, all those approaches are radical. The body will always, as long as it's nurtured, cleanse itself when it's time."

  • xix

For people without gallbladders, the liver can only produce enough bile to digest about one ounce of fat every one to two hours. Eating more results in nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. This is a practical limitation imposed by liver capacity alone when gallbladder storage is absent.

  • xx

Chugging the pain formula (which contains 2 eggs, 5 level tbsp bee pollen, ½ tsp lime juice, 1 tsp honey, 4 oz raw cream/coconut cream/butter) was described as burdening the liver: "That fat in there all at one time - that liver has to deal with it all." The formula should be consumed slowly.

Recovery Timeline

Recovery Timeline

General Liver Recovery

"Usually it takes 2 and a half years to get the liver to recover properly."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

With aggressive juice therapy (4.5-5 cups of juice per day), this could potentially be reduced to approximately 2 years.

Specific Case Timelines
  • A liver at approximately 20% functional was described as potentially being at 60% functional within about six weeks with appropriate food protocol (coconut, walnuts, specific meat ratios), described as "pretty quick."
  • A liver that was approximately half active but not producing cholesterols properly: rebuilding required consistent eating of liver once or twice per week alongside dietary protocols.
  • For glycogen/AGE liver damage: approximately two years and three months of 40% red meat to rebuild liver function to the point of tolerating other meat types.
  • For the general case requiring red meat emphasis: "In about 2 years he could go more to white meat. But maybe 6 years red meat 60% after that."
  • Hepatitis cases: "I've had probably 200 cases of hepatitis liver's in great condition after about 6 years."
Why Recovery is Slow

"Healing the liver is a very long process because, similar to the heart, it is almost constantly working."

Aajonus Vonderplanitz

The liver never gets extended rest. Unlike a broken bone that can be immobilized, the liver must continue to function throughout its own healing process. This is the fundamental reason recovery takes years rather than months.

What Slows Recovery Further
  • Continuing to eat cooked fats
  • Continued exposure to metals and chemicals
  • Insufficient protein intake (the liver cannot recover without protein, "lots of protein")
  • Insufficient raw fat intake
  • Eating fruit and sugar during rebuilding phases
  • Not eating raw animal liver as a rebuilding food
Signs of Liver Healing Progress
  • Dark circles under the eyes slowly lightening
  • Reduction in jaundiced/yellow complexion
  • Improved fat digestion
  • Reduction in bile-related symptoms

Aajonus described observing this process through iridology, the iris showing reduction in brown spots, reduction in lesions, and decreased toxic mineral deposits in the liver zone of the iris.

Questions Aajonus Answered

Questions Aajonus Answered

  • Q: Husband with liver believed to not be producing bile, white/sand-colored stool, leaky gut, extreme pain from eating anything

Submitted question: Husband in very bad shape, feeling like he is going to die. Doesn't believe his liver is working correctly. Stool is white or sand-colored at best, could this be from eating all the eggs and cheese only? Diagnosed with severe leaky gut syndrome, anything he eats (even sips of water) gives extreme symptoms and horrible pain. He ate 2.5 inches of banana with butter and had severe pain for 4-6 hours in muscles, thighs, calves, arms, butt, hands, wrists, eyes burning. Urinating maybe once per day with burning.

Aajonus's response (from correspondence): He identified the condition as a liver not producing bile (causing white stool), and the leaky gut and pain from banana as likely related to the liver's condition processing the banana sugar (noting that banana has to pass through the liver once it's in conversion). He addressed this in terms of the liver needing to be supported rather than challenged, with specific food suggestions adjusting what was being eaten.

For liver pain specifically: "Eat only honey and butter (1:2 respectively) with ¼ tsp soft bee pollen for at least one full day, 30-60 minutes of every waking hour until the pain subsides. The only other food you could consume is a mixture of 2 ounces lemon juice, 1 T. lime juice, 2 ounces unheated honey and 2 T. raw cream, blended together, and adding that to 6 ounces Apollinaris water, sipped."

He also stated: "Avocado and papaya are for intestinal pain, not the liver. Since it worked once, it may be your bowel intestine and not your liver. If honey/butter works, it is your liver."

    ---

  • Q: Baby repeatedly vomiting from liver formula, should formula be continued?

Situation: Baby throwing up after introduction of liver formula (2-3 tablespoons liver in goat's milk with butter, honey, cream). Violent vomits 2-3 times a day when liver was included; reduced to once every 4-5 days when liver removed.

Aajonus: "If you had that cluster analyzed, you would have found some toxins such as chlorine or fluoride. He did not cry, because he was able to totally discharge the toxins. They did not remain in his stomach to cause gaseous swelling. I suggest that you continue with the liver formula as much as possible."

When vomiting continued: "He is fine. He is vomiting some very toxic substances that could seriously harm him. He is not vomiting all of the food, only enough to carry the toxins from his stomach out of his body. That will happen frequently if his body wants to get rid of the toxins that could damage his growth and development."

When formula was entirely vomited: "If he vomits persistently from consuming liver, his liver or pancreas is very toxic. His body dumps the toxins into the stomach for immediate discharge so toxins do not interfere with digestion. If they do pass through the intestines, diarrhea results. Try just 1 T. liver with 6 ozs. of raw milk."

    ---

  • Q: Can baby have mineral water after vomiting to rehydrate?

Context: Baby vomiting from liver formula and seeming dehydrated/thirsty after.

Aajonus: Did not endorse plain mineral water without addressing the liver condition. The recommendation was to continue with the formula and reduce the quantity of liver until tolerated.

    ---

  • Q: Grandmother's recommendation of fresh mint (Yerba buena) tea to soothe the belly during liver formula vomiting?

Aajonus did not endorse this approach in the correspondence; the focus was maintained on the liver formula protocol and reducing liver quantity rather than adding herbs.

    ---

  • Q: Person with liver full of metals and blocked duct, can't digest fat, especially cooked fats

Aajonus's assessment: "The duct going into it doesn't look like it's open very well. So the liver is in really bad shape. The kidney is in bad shape. Lots of metal all over in the kidney area. So, you know, you've got this bad digestion on the left side and the bad liver on the right side."

Approach: He described forcing his own liver to work by eating 1.5-2 pounds of butter per day, but explicitly stated he was not suggesting that much for this person.

  • Q: About jaundice and what to do for liver detox, person with history of juice feasting

Aajonus: "Good. I tried to talk you out of it. I was hoping that I would influence you. Good. Good. Good. Then you are just, you've got a pretty toxic liver, then, if you are this jaundiced."

On liver detox emphasis: Put emphasis on fats with proteins for the liver to work, and lots of fats to clean out the toxicity the liver has created. He described the issue: "Every fat that passes from your liver is connected with bile and that is why you are turning yellow and you don't need bile connected with that."

  • Q: Person who grew up on cotton farm and worked in cotton gin with lots of chemical exposure, lumpy liver

Aajonus: "I'd like you to eat cheese at least every 20 minutes. Yeah. A little cheese. And a bunch of cheese in the morning. And you need a lot of minerals to replace, so you need two and a half tablespoons of cheese with two and a half teaspoons [of honey]. You need enough honey. You need the help[ing]." Also recommended avocado to help the liver in this condition.

  • Q: Person with suspected hepatitis C

Aajonus: "You know hepatitis is really not a difficult thing. I've never had a problem with that. It's very easy. It's just that you have to get organic liver. And you put the liver in a food processor with some ginger and some horseradish, or, if they don't like the ginger, then just use the horseradish, or, if they don't like the horseradish, just use [the ginger]."

  • Q: Person with liver at 20% functional and bile producing instead of fat

Aajonus: "Your liver is about 20% functional. Within about six weeks, it could be about 60% functional. That's pretty quick. Do you like coconut? You need to eat whole coconut at least one and a half a week. Coconut cream is good too, but you need whole coconut. For some reason, the fibers are similar to the ill condition in your liver. It's going to help reverse it. Also walnuts. Usually a condition I don't recommend. But you need walnuts and you need to blend them with egg, peanut oil or butter and honey. Without the carob. Meat should be about 60% chicken 20% red meat."

  • Q: About chemotherapy for hepatitis

Aajonus: "They're trying to kill something that's not alive. The virus is not alive. You can't kill it. It's ridiculous. I've had probably 200 cases of hepatitis liver's in great condition after about 6 years."

Usually see that kind of accentuation in people who have lymph problems, severe lymph problems."

    ---

  • Q: About whether liver filters toxins

Aajonus: "Doesn't the liver filter all the toxins through the body? No, liver filters the toxins out of the body. Isn't there anything that resides in the liver? The liver is mainly a protein body. It's not a fat body. Liver is the most concentrated protein of anywhere else in the body except the heart."

When pressed about organic liver: "Well, if you're taking it from an animal that's got a lot of chemicals in it, then they go to the hormones and then th[ey transfer]...", confirming why organic is essential for consuming animal liver.

  • Q: Cirrhosis, what are the signs and treatment?

Source Material: Early symptoms include indigestion, diarrhea or constipation, fever, yellowish complexion, liver pain and spasms. Progressed symptoms include anemia, edema, spider-shaped bruises (internal bleeding), and heaviness throughout the liver area.

For extreme nausea: eating plenty of raw tomatoes or fresh raw tomato puree throughout each day for as many days as it takes to quiet nausea works best.

After nausea quiets, or for lighter nausea: drinking fresh juice from about 6 lemons, and at other times eating plenty of raw fat (especially raw eggs) with small amounts of cooked starches every day helps clean and tone the liver.

For hardening specifically: fresh raw coconut cream with cucumbers dissolves hardening fastest.

Healing is a very long process. Eating raw meat twice daily on the balanced raw diet over many years rebuilds the liver.
